I had a rough week. Still, given what I had to deal with, I managed to get a lot more done than I thought I would. Now it’s time to have a chat about what you can expect from me for the rest of 2017.
OK, this update is long, but I ask you: PLEASE, read it to the end. This way you will know what to expect from me for the rest of the year, and why.
I can finally report that I have shipped all old orders except those with A13 items in them. The only order left in house that does not include one or more A13 items just came in last night.
ORDERS WITH A13 ITEMS
If you happen to be waiting on an order with an A13 item in it, I assure you, you are my primary focus for next week. I will finally get the new molds made and start shipping your orders by Monday or Tuesday. I plan to make 2 molds and, if I have any luck at all, I should be caught up sometime between Nov 3 and Nov 7.
One more thing. I know some of you have been patiently waiting for me to get your order filled for some time now. When I ship your order, I will email you a code you can use for 20% off your next order. It will be a personal, one-time-use discount code. It may not make up for what I see as very poor customer service, but I feel I owe you something. This is the least I can do.
I did manage to get the rest of Karl’s .50 cal masters ready for release. These are some of the toughest items I have ever had to cast — because they are some of the finest, most detailed masters Karl has ever made. But I think I pulled it off and I am sure you will agree: these new pieces are amazing! Watch for them later today, Friday, Oct. 27.
TIME FOR A REFIT
I have been going very hard for most of 2017. I need a bit of a break, but the shop has too much left to do. As most of you know, TMD is a one-man show. I have people who do help me, and I do not mean to slight or ignore them. However, I pretty much have to do all the ‘grunt’ work around here. As a result, a lot of the non-revenue producing chores get pushed off and, eventually, they start to affect revenue. Well, the time has come where I need to take care of the things I’ve been pushing off — and soon!
So, I am going to ‘stand down’ for the rest of 2017. Think of it like an armored unit that gets pulled off the front line to undergo a refit. Just like a unit going through refit is finally given time to take care of all the maintenance issues it had not been able to fix while it was in the field, I am going to use the rest of the year to take care of the work I have not had time to do until now.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
What this means is I will be suspending my end of the month releases for the next month, maybe two. I do have things to release! However, I am not going to worry about keeping to a schedule. When I get them ready, I’ll just trickle them out. Now, I’d like to finish all the outstanding masters I promised this year, I just don’t know if it will happen. The list includes:
The final T-Series items
The M10 interior and other M10-related items
More for the new Takom Lee and Grant kits
The re-release of the SdKfz 9/1 Famo Crane Conversion
The re-release of the M8 HMC Conversion
The re-release of the Bergepanther Conversion
Plus, I have a few Karl van Sweden surprises I have never mentioned. They are a little on the LARGER side, so, but, if I can get to them, you Sherman guys will probably trip over yourselves as you run for your wallets 🙂
GOALS FOR THE REFIT
I will work on these new items, but I will be taking the rest of 2017 to finish cleaning up the re-model in the new shop. I am also going to do my best to catch up on old business and emails. I hope to get to a lot of the work I have left to do on the web site. I need to make it easier for you to use, so you can find things easier and faster. And I want to figure out how to push TMD better than I have been. I need to find a way to start a PR campaign that I can manage with my available time when I am in regular operations. If you have any ideas, let me know.
I need to start building demo kits to replace the ones that were lost while the company was out of my hands those two or so years. If you would like to help with this, email me. Just make sure you can take good pictures of the build as you go along and when you have finished This also means you have to be sure you can and will commit to getting the project finished in a timely manner. All I can offer in return is a free TMD item plus the kit you need to build it. That, and public credit in the product listing page.
I am also looking for new pattern makers. If you are interested, I’d like to talk with you. But this one isn’t for just anyone. I tend to be a little demanding. Still, if you make the grade, you know I can and will produce your work at or near the highest level in the industry. So, if you have solid scratch building skills and are interested in making masters for TMD, email me directly.
THAT IS ALL
Whew! OK, that’s more than enough, so I’ll stop here. In fact, I’ll probably repeat parts of this next week. Until then, stay safe and try to build something (preferably something using TMD resin).
